This past school year, PBGA screened 31,371 prekindergarten students in Georgia and referred 1843 to an eye care professional for glaucoma, cataracts, amblyopia and other vision threatening eye diseases. For every 17 children screened, we find one child that needs to be referred to an eye care professional. Here is Gus’s story:

Three young adults who received gene therapy for a blinding eye condition remained healthy and maintained previous visual gains one year later, according to an August online report in Human Gene Therapy.
